BLUE
A Bakers Mountain Story
In 1944, thirteen year old Ann Fay Honeycutt agrees to be"the man of the house" while her father goes off to fight Hitler. She's doing a fine job of it until a polio epidemic strikes her hometown and her family.
Her town responds by creating an emergency hospital and Ann Fay, motivated by love for her daddy and a feisty spirit, meets each new challenge that comes her way.
BLUE, the first book published in Bakers Mountain Stories, is based on a real epidemic in Hickory, North Carolina. Other books in the series include AIM (prequel) COMFORT, DRIVE, and EQUAL.
BLUE won the International Reading Association Children's Book Award, NC Juvenile Literature Award, and Parent's Choice Silver Honor. It is a NC Battle of the Books selection.
